Christmas Night

It is quiet now
The day is over and the boy is sleeping
It was a day full of
packages
noise
pictures
food
relatives
Everything that Christmas should be
Auggie crinkled all the paper and
stared at all of the lights
He was entertained for hours by
the joyful antics of his cousins

Thank you Nana, Grandpop, Grandmom, the Bedells,
the Scotts, and Bob and Jason for all of the wonderful
gifts!

4 Calling BIrds

The Scene: Valley View Farms Christmas Display- lights everywhere, ornaments, trees, stockings, Christmas Villages depicting Dickensian carolers, garland- an over the top display of everything Christmas

I am staring at this little ornament. In my head I'm all sappy thinking "Awww, I could get this for Auggie's first Christmas" I have images in my head of having this when he is older...

Dave comes over and snickers and elbows me- expecting a comrade in making fun of the
over the top sickly sweet ornament.

"I like it" I say with a tear in my eye. "Look how sweet"

Dave blinks....

Pause

"Are you my wife?"

Miracle on 34th St.

I was tired and cranky yesterday morning.
The cell rang and it was my friend Jill.
"Let's meet tonight and go have a beer,
I need to get out"

PERFECT

It was just what I needed.
We walked up 34th Street
Past the Christmas lights
Past the hub cap tree
Past the Santa on a Harley
and went into Rocket to Venus

A Hoegaarden White Ale with a slice of orange.
Refreshing and light tasting...
AND..
Now I have a new favorite thing- FRIED PICKLES.
Words fail me!
They were fantastic!
They also have some amazingly tasty brussels sprouts.

It felt odd being out at night.
It has been a long time.

Meet Moldy Head the Pirate

Meet Moldy Head the Pirate.
I think Dave got him at some white elephant thing.
He has perched atop our teeny tiny Christmas Tree
for the last several years. The rest of the year he
hangs from a string in the corner of the living room.
I can't quite remember how we started calling him
Moldy Head.

Somehow we got into a discussion about what to tell
Auggie about Santa... One of those things neither of us
has strong feelings about, but I do have some issues with
trying to convince him that Santa exists. It just feels like
it would totally suck to believe in Santa and then find out
it is all a sham!

SOO
Instead of Santa we decided to tell Auggie about
Moldy Head the Pirate! We just have to come up
with a good story. The fun thing about coming up with
our own story is that Auggie can have a starring role.
None of this Rudolf crap. Auggie can own the imposing
pirate ship where Moldy gathers loot from the oceans
of the world. He can be king of the pirates! Big Gay
Lion can look after the worker pirates while Auggie is
home with his parents! Crunchy Dog will guard the holds!
His pirate underlings will deliver his share of the booty
from across the South Seas every Christmas morning.

Story still taking shape.
Open to suggestions...
