Pictures from the weekend

We were all lolling about the bedroom on Sunday.
My sweet baby...

I am reading The Good Earth (Pearl S. Buck). I read it
way back in high school, but have forgotten most of it.
I have really enjoyed revisiting some literature that I
read earlier in life because it is interesting how differently
I perceive things now. For example, I remembered only
one scene from the Good Earth. This time around I am so
heartbroken and touched by his mourning when his family
is starving. Wang Lung witnesses his family growing thinner
and thinner and the description of his starving infant just
breaks my heart. I think there are just some things I
couldn't quite empathize with without more life experience.
I understood what I had previously read, but didn't feel it
in my gut as much.

I never could have predicted the powerful feelings of
love, protection, caring, and nurturing that my son has
awakened in me. With those feelings comes some anxiety
as well. You know, the "what if" thoughts that creep in
at the corners of my happy life.

Boy do I love my son...

Books

I have added the books that were recommended to a list
to the right of this page...
I KNOW at least 3 librarians and one potentially soon to
be librarian frequent this page, so please feel free to jump in
and add to the list by commenting on books you have read that
really stuck with you.
I'll update the list on the page periodically.

One I just finished is called
Father Knows Less Or: "Can I Cook My Sister?": One Dad's Quest to Answer His Son's Most Baffling Questions

This father went around and searched for answers to his son's questions from experts. For example he asks a specialist
"What would hurt more: getting run over by a car or getting stung by a jellyfish?"
It was a fun read.

BOOKS

I would love it if people would share book recommendations.
I want to hear about books that you thought were really amazing when you read them.
For example, it has been years since I read the Poisonwood Bible, but I still remember
the book very well. I felt that reading it changed my perception of the world in some
way.
What books stick out in your memory?
