At the zoo
Auggie pet goats
Fed giraffes
Chased sparrows
and
Watched the chimps
At the fall festival he stuffed scarecrows
and watched the most passionless trio play
music.... he didn't seem to mind the lack of
soul though.
Haven't had a lot of words in me lately, but
we've been busy doing lots of "fall things" as
a family.
Maybe some writing inspiration will strike soon.

Zoo animals usually cannot mate with a partner of their choice which leads to unnatural selection as opposed to the natural selection that occurs in the wild this results in the perpetuation of unfavorable genetic traits in succeeding generations. Animals returned to the wild would have little chance of survival if the problems that led to their becoming endangered in the first place were not resolved. Zoos have played a part in attempting to “conserve” only a minute fraction of the enormous variety of animal species in the world for every endangered species that is part of a zoo breeding programme, there are many other animals in the zoo for entertainment only.

Urban zoos are the classical zoological gardens that stand in the tradition of the nineteenth century zoo concept, even if some of them changed their names to Conservation Park or Biopark. Most of them are relatively small in size and based within cities or urbanized areas, a fact that often complicates the construction of more sizable enclosures. In Europe a famous urban zoo is the Antwerp Zoo in Belgium, right next to the central station of the city. In the USA a good example is the Cincinnati Zoo.
